The mGrip is a modular soft robotic gripper system from Soft Robotics built around replaceable elastomer fingers actuated by compressed air. Finger modules mount to a rigid base and can be combined in two, three or four finger configurations to suit the product being handled. Because the fingers conform to the shape of the item, the gripper can pick irregular, delicate, deformable or variable items without custom tooling, and food-grade, washdown capable materials are available for food handling. Actuation is pneumatic and is typically controlled through a small control module or a standard valve, so integration with common robot arms and cartesian systems is straightforward. Finger and base modules are changed quickly, which allows rapid changeover between product types. Typical applications include picking fresh produce, bakery goods, meat and poultry, packaged food, e-commerce items and pharmaceutical or consumer goods in packing and kitting lines.
