SIMOTICS XP is the Siemens range of low-voltage motors built for use in explosive atmospheres. It includes flameproof enclosure motors with Ex d protection for gas hazard zone 1, increased safety motors with Ex e, and non-sparking Ex n motors for zone 2, and also dust-explosion-protected versions for zones 21 and 22. The motors have a cast-iron housing, and they are available in outputs from a few hundred watts to several hundred kilowatts with efficiencies according to IE2 and IE3. Certification covers ATEX and IECEx. They can be operated from the mains or frequency converters, when certified for the combination. Typical users are the chemical, oil and gas, mining and grain-processing industries, driving pumps, fans and compressors.
