The ICH series comprises Kollmorgen’s flat, three-phase ironcore direct-drive linear motors (IC and ICD coil units) used with MCH magnet ways. The ironcore construction gives the highest force per frame size of Kollmorgen’s flat linear motors, and an anti-cogging design keeps force ripple low, further reduced when driven by Kollmorgen S300/S700 servo drives with cogging suppression. Windings are fully encapsulated for harsh machine environments, and each winding carries PTC thermal sensors plus a KTY84-130 sensor for temperature monitoring. The nominal air gap is 0.9 mm ±0.1 mm. Magnet ways have stainless steel covers and are supplied in matching widths and several lengths that are butted together for the required stroke. Connections are flying leads or an Intercontec M23 connector, and the motors work with most linear encoders. The series is marked obsolete on Kollmorgen’s site, with the IC ironcore DDL family as the current alternative. Typical applications were machine tool axes, gantries and other axes needing high continuous force and stiffness without ball screws.
