A distortion target is a patterned plate for measuring the geometric distortion of a lens or imaging system. Edmund Optics supplies chrome-on-glass versions in which a grid of dots or squares is photolithographically deposited as chrome on a glass substrate, giving high contrast and accurate, stable feature positions. They can be lit from behind or the front. They are used in lens design verification, machine vision calibration and optical metrology.
