Max Levy Autograph (MLA), now part of Coherent’s aerospace and defense business, makes ultra-precision patterned targets for machine vision calibration. Its range includes grid and dot arrays, distortion targets, line grids, Ronchi rulings, grey-scale targets, reticles and vision system precision scales. Distortion targets carry regular dot or line grids, typically chrome on glass, chrome on white glass for front lighting, or film for lower cost, and are used to measure magnification, lens distortion and perspective in 2D and 3D vision systems. Examples include the DA073 grid distortion target on white glass, the DA038 2 x 2 line grid target, and large-format donut-dot grids such as FA007 (600 x 300 mm) and FA019 (900 x 600 mm). MLA can produce grids from a few millimetres up to about 3 m and makes custom patterns for OEM equipment, where the target is built into the machine for automatic alignment and focusing. Targets are used to calibrate inspection cameras, robot vision, medical diagnostic equipment and semiconductor process tools.
