QT50U long-range ultrasonic distance sensor

The QT50U is an ultrasonic sensor from Banner Engineering with a rectangular housing, designed for non-contact distance measurement and detection over long ranges, up to several metres. Models with analog output give a 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA signal proportional to distance, while discrete versions provide switching outputs. The beam profile is relatively narrow, and the sensor can detect most materials regardless of colour or transparency, including clear plastic and liquids. The programming of the sensing window is done by a teach routine using a button or remote wire, and temperature compensation maintains accuracy as ambient conditions change. The housing is rated to IP67 and has a quick disconnect connector. Typical applications are level monitoring of tanks and bins, roll diameter control, web loop control, pallet and package detection and object presence over longer distances in packaging, material handling and process industries. The sensor needs a clear line to the target without strong air currents.
