MELSEC iQ-R Simple Motion Module (RD77MS16)

The RD77MS16 is the 16-axis Simple Motion module for Mitsubishi Electric’s MELSEC iQ-R PLC platform. It connects to MELSERVO-J4 and J5 servo amplifiers over the SSCNET III/H optical network, with up to 100 m between stations, and controls up to 16 axes including virtual servo axes. Operation cycle is selectable at 0.444, 0.888, 1.777 or 3.555 ms. Control modes include positioning, speed, torque, speed-position switching, fixed-pitch feed, continuous path control and advanced synchronous control with electronic cams, and it performs linear interpolation of up to four axes, two-axis circular and three-axis helical interpolation. A mark detection function captures positions from external sensors, for example for registration in packaging. The module occupies one slot and 32 I/O points on the iQ-R base and is configured from the CPU’s USB or Ethernet port with GX Works3 using positioning data tables and the Simple Motion setting tool, without a separate motion programming language. Typical uses are packaging machines, printing and converting lines, labelling, and multi-axis handling.
