Güdel’s gantry range is built from modular linear axes in steel and aluminium, with rack and pinion drives and precision guideways, mounted overhead on columns or on the building structure. The ZP is listed by Güdel as a two-axis gantry, with FP and CP as the three-axis types, so the ‘ZP-3’ name in the input does not match a Güdel designation exactly. Overhead gantries free the floor space beneath, and can carry loads from the tens of kilograms into the tonne range depending on the series. They are used for loading and unloading machine tools, press lines, palletizing, and transporting workpieces between stations in long travel distances. Güdel supplies the axes together with the controls and a robot or handling unit at the end of the vertical axis.
