Shaft collars are ring-shaped fasteners that lock onto a shaft to locate gears, bearings, pulleys and other parts, or to act as a mechanical stop. NBK supplies shaft collar series in set-screw and clamp styles. A set-screw collar tightens a hardened screw directly onto the shaft, which is simple and economical but can mark the shaft surface. A clamp collar has a split ring, either one-piece or two-piece, which is tightened with a screw to give a more uniform and higher holding force without damaging the shaft. Collars are commonly made from steel with a black oxide or nickel finish, or from stainless steel or aluminium, and are supplied in metric bore sizes from a few millimetres to several tens of millimetres. Typical applications include linear motion shafts, power transmission assemblies, conveyors, positioning stops, and general machine building.
