A one-piece stainless steel split shaft collar is a ring with a single slit and a socket head cap screw across the split. Tightening the screw closes the slit and clamps the collar around the shaft with even holding force, without the shaft marring that a set screw causes. It is used to position bearings, gears, and pulleys axially, to act as a stop or spacer, and to retain components on a shaft. The stainless material resists corrosion in washdown, food, and marine environments. Huyett stocks single split collars in many inch and metric bore sizes, and the collars can be removed and repositioned without damaging the shaft. The collar can also be fitted at a mid-shaft position without disassembling the shaft, which is the main advantage of a split design over a solid collar.
