A vibratory base drive is the electromagnetic part of a bowl feeder system, which supplies the oscillating motion that makes parts climb the tooling in a vibratory bowl. It typically comprises a heavy cast iron base, leaf springs set at an angle, an electromagnet with coil and armature, and a top plate on which the bowl is mounted. When the coil is driven with alternating current, usually at line frequency or a controlled frequency, the armature moves against the springs and creates a micro-throw motion that conveys parts. Performance Feeders is a US manufacturer of vibratory feeding equipment and supplies bases in various sizes for different bowl diameters and loads. The drive speed and amplitude are controlled using a feeder controller, which can be a variable voltage or frequency type. Heavy-duty cast iron construction gives high mass and stability for heavy bowls and parts. Typical applications include parts feeding in assembly lines, packaging, pharmaceutical, medical device and electronics manufacturing.
