LC 415 absolute sealed linear glass scale

The LC 415 is a sealed linear encoder from Heidenhain’s LC family, which measures absolute position with a scale on a glass or glass ceramic carrier, scanned optically. The aluminium housing is sealed with lips against coolant, chips, and dust, and the scanning unit rides along the scale without contact. It reports the absolute position directly at switch-on, so no reference run is needed, and output is through a serial interface such as EnDat. The encoder is mounted along a machine axis and measures the real position of the slide, independent of backlash and thermal growth of the ball screw. Measuring lengths run up to over a metre. It is used on milling machines, grinding machines, and other precision machine tools.
