BL Series edge-lit LED backlight panel

The BL series from Advanced Illumination is a family of edge-lit LED backlights used in machine vision to produce a uniform bright background for silhouette imaging. LEDs are placed along the edges of a light guide, and a diffuser spreads the light evenly across the emitting surface. This produces a high-contrast outline of the part, which helps with measurement of dimensions, presence detection, edge location and gauging. The backlights are available in a range of sizes and colours, such as red, green, blue, white and infrared, and can be driven in continuous mode or strobed with a suitable controller for short exposure times. Housings are typically aluminium with a sealed front, and the lights are connected through a standard M12 or flying lead cable. Typical applications include inspection of small mechanical parts, glass and plastic bottles, electronic components and pharmaceutical products, as well as dimensional measurement in assembly and packaging lines.
