The EC-4pole 30 is a 30 mm diameter brushless DC motor in maxon’s EC-4pole programme, which uses a four-pole permanent magnet rotor and maxon’s ironless winding technology to reach very high power density with low losses. It is offered in 100 W and 200 W versions with various winding voltages; the 200 W model 305015, for example, is rated at 48 V, about 16,000 rpm nominal speed, 93 mNm continuous torque and a stall torque of about 3.4 Nm, with up to 90% efficiency and a mass of about 300 g. The motors have Hall sensors for commutation and can be combined in maxon’s modular system with planetary gearheads, encoders and brakes, and driven by ESCON or EPOS controllers. Sterilisable variants exist for surgical power tools. The ‘heavy duty’ label is associated with maxon’s separate HD motors for harsh oil and gas environments rather than the standard EC-4pole 30. Typical applications are robot joints, exoskeletons, handheld tools, pumps and compact high-performance actuators.
